Excessive wear on belts, cracking and worn

I’m seeing a lot of sites lately just replacing belts.


If the pulleys are aligned properly and the tension is set right, belts should last a lot longer than what we’re seeing.


Before swapping belts, it’s worth checking alignment.

You can do this with a straight edge or a piece of string. I usually just use string . (Cheap, easy to carry, fits in the tool bag, and does the job.)

As per Australian Standard AS 1851 – Routine Service of Fire Protection Systems and Equipment, fire and smoke dampers must be inspected and tested as part of the building’s fire safety maintenance program.

 

Fire Dampers

What they are:Fire dampers are installed in ducts where they pass through fire-rated walls or floors. Their purpose is to prevent fire from spreading through the ductwork between fire compartments.

They normally contain a fusible link that melts when exposed to high temperature, causing the damper blades to close and stop the spread of fire.
